It all started with a goose, a boat, and a desire for a little something more.

Gooseboat & Co. is the work of Mort, a lifelong artist and local who has spent years paying attention to Muskoka from the inside. Living rurally and year round, he sees the place for what it is both in peak season and when things quiet down. It is familiar, changing, and full of contrast depending on the time of year.

Mort’s work is inspired by that experience. Some pieces start on paper. Some start on screen. All are original and made by hand.

Using drawing and watercolour, he creates original pieces that are playful, honest, and rooted in place. Sometimes the scenes are exaggerated, sometimes they are exactly as you remember them. The work is meant to feel familiar, sometimes offbeat, and easy to live with.

Gooseboat & Co. is a small partnership: Mort creates the art, and Mel brings it to life behind the scenes, shaping the brand, managing the details, and helping the work find its way into the world. It’s a shared project built from the place we call home.

We’re starting small and local on purpose. Each piece is made by hand, printed locally, inspired by Muskoka, and shared with the hope that it brings a smile, sparks a memory, or feels quietly recognizable.
